Newbold was the Dean and Vice Rector of the Seminary of Our Lady of Providence, Warwick, the former Rector of Our Lady of Providence Preparatory Seminary, Providence, former Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church from 1986-2000, former Director of the Diocesan Office of Government Liaison, the former Executive Director of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League for 26 years, he was an original member of the State of Rhode Island’s Ethics Commission, previously served on the Conflict of Interest Commission, a Member of the Massachusetts and American Bar Associations, former Vice President of the National Federation of State High School Associations, former President of the New England Council, a member of the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame.

Southern New England School of Law is pleased to announce the fourth annual swearing in at the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, March 24, 2009. A select group of ten (10) alumni, along with ten (10) students, will partake in this momentous ceremony which will include a private meeting with Justice Clarence Thomas.

Spots will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. In order to reserve your spot for this event, you must contact me by Monday, November 3, 2008 and provide me with a $150 non-refundable deposit by check or credit card. Applicants must be admitted to practice for at least three years and not have been the subject of any adverse disciplinary action.

The event will be a full day, beginning at approximately 7:00 a.m. when the group will meet at The Liaison Capital Hill Hotel located at 415 New Jersey Avenue, N.W. in Washington, D.C. to walk to the Supreme Court together for breakfast in a private room. Depending on the Court’s schedule, the swearing in ceremony will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Each participant is allowed to bring one guest over six years old to witness the ceremony. After the ceremony we will take a group photograph on the courthouse steps.

Although not required, we strongly recommend that each participant plan to arrive in Washington, D.C. the night of Monday, March 23, 2009. To celebrate the occasion, there will be a cocktail reception the evening of March 23rd from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at The Liaison Capital Hill Hotel for participants and their guests which will feature hors d’oeuvres, a Washington, D.C. based guest speaker, as well as a review by a Southern New England School of Law faculty member of the cases being argued at the Court the following day.

Please note that each alumni participant will be responsible for coordinating his or her own travel and lodging arrangements.
